Ragtag Candies—a delightful, easy-to-make treat with a mix of nuts, coconut, and chocolate. It’s a nostalgic candy that’s both crunchy and chewy.


Ragtag Candies Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky)

  • 2 cups shredded sweetened coconut

  • 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts work great)

  • 1 cup crispy rice cereal

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare a pan: Line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper or wax paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

  2. Melt the chocolate and peanut butter:
    In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each until smooth and fully melted.

  3. Add vanilla and salt: Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.

  4. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded coconut, chopped nuts, and crispy rice cereal.

  5. Combine everything: Pour the melted chocolate-peanut butter mixture over the dry ingredients and gently fold until everything is evenly coated.

  6. Press into pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and press down evenly with a spatula or your hands (you can lightly grease your hands to avoid sticking).

  7. Chill: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.

  8. Cut and serve: Lift the candy slab out using the parchment paper overhang and cut into squares or rectangles.
