Root Beer Baked Beans Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups canned baked beans (or homemade baked beans)

  • 1 cup root beer (regular, not diet)

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 3-4 slices bacon, chopped (optional for smoky flavor)

  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)

  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven: to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cook the bacon (if using): In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, leaving a little bacon fat in the pan.

  3. Sauté onions: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook in bacon fat (or a little oil) until soft and translucent.

  4. Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, combine baked beans, root beer, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cooked onions, and bacon. Stir well.

  5. Season: Add salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Bake: Pour the mixture into a baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for about 1 hour, stirring halfway through. For a thicker sauce, uncover for the last 15 minutes.
