Pumpkin Dog Treats

Posted on September 9, 2025

Here’s a recipe for Pumpkin Dog Treats that are healthy, simple to make, and dogs usually love them. Pumpkin is great for dogs’ digestion and these treats are perfect for training or just showing some love.

Pumpkin Dog Treats Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup canned pumpkin (pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs)

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour if your dog has wheat sensitivities)

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, dogs can tolerate small amounts and it’s good for them)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Mix Wet Ingredients:

    • In a large bowl, combine the canned pumpkin, eggs, and peanut butter.

    • Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.

  3. Add Dry Ingredients:

    • Gradually add the flour and cinnamon (if using), mixing until the dough forms.

    • The dough should be stiff but pliable. If it’s too sticky, add a bit more flour.

  4. Roll Out the Dough:

    • Lightly flour your work surface.

    • Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thickness.

  5. Cut Out Treats:

    • Use cookie cutters (bone shapes, circles, or any fun shapes) to cut out the treats.

    • Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. Bake:

    • Bake for 25-30 minutes until the edges are golden brown.

    • For crunchier treats, turn off the oven and leave them inside to dry out for an additional hour.

  7. Cool and Store:

    • Let the treats cool completely on a wire rack.

    • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.

Tips:

  • If your dog has allergies, swap whole wheat flour for oat or rice flour.

  • Avoid using any sweeteners or spices that can be toxic to dogs (like nutmeg, garlic, or onion).

  • Always check with your vet before introducing new foods.
