Homemade 3-Ingredient Mounds Bars

Posted on September 9, 2025

Here’s a  homemade 3-ingredient Mounds Bars recipe that’s super easy and incredibly delicious. These bars taste just like the classic Mounds candy bars (chocolate-coated coconut bars), and they’re naturally gluten-free!

🥥 Homemade 3-Ingredient Mounds Bars Recipe

✅ Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups sweetened shredded coconut

  2. 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

  3. 2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (or chocolate bars, chopped)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Make the Coconut Filling

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together:

    • 2 cups sweetened shredded coconut

    • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

  2. Stir until the mixture is fully combined and sticky. The coconut should be well-coated but not dripping wet.

Step 2: Shape the Bars

  1. Scoop about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of the coconut mixture and shape it into small rectangular bars (like the shape of a Mounds bar).

  2. Place the bars on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.

  3. Once all bars are formed, place the tray in the freezer for 20–30 minutes to firm them up. This makes them easier to coat in chocolate.

Step 3: Melt the Chocolate

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the 2 cups of chocolate chips:

    • Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.

    • Alternatively, melt the chocolate using a double boiler on the stove.

Step 4: Coat the Bars

  1. Remove the coconut bars from the freezer.

  2. Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each coconut bar into the melted chocolate, turning to coat all sides.

  3. Let excess chocolate drip off, then place the bar back on the parchment-lined tray.

🔁 Optional: For a classic touch, you can press a whole almond on top of the coconut mixture before coating in chocolate (for an Almond Joy-style twist).

Step 5: Set the Chocolate

  1. After all bars are coated, place the tray in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes, or until the chocolate is fully set.

🍫 Storage:

  • Store the finished Mounds bars in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

  • You can also freeze them for up to 3 months — just thaw slightly before eating.

💡 Tips:

  • If your coconut mixture is too dry to shape, add a little more condensed milk (1 tablespoon at a time).

  • Use good quality chocolate for the best flavor.

  • Dark chocolate (around 60–70% cocoa) gives a more authentic Mounds taste.
