🍏 Air Fried Apple Wedges with Caramel Whipped Cream Dipping Sauce

🍎 Ingredients

For the Apple Wedges:

  • 2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith work well)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (to prevent browning)

  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (helps crisp up the outside)

  • 1 tbsp melted butter or neutral oil (e.g., avocado oil)

Optional for extra crunch:

  • ¼ cup crushed graham crackers or oats for coating

For the Caramel Whipped Cream:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold

  • 2–3 tbsp caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of sea salt (optional, for salted caramel flavor)

📝 Instructions

1. Prep the Apples:

  1. Wash, core, and slice apples into wedges (about 8–10 wedges per apple).

  2. Toss wedges in lemon juice to prevent browning.

  3. In a bowl, mix cinnamon, brown sugar, and cornstarch.

  4. Toss apple wedges in melted butter/oil, then coat evenly with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. For added crunch, press into crushed graham crackers or oats.

2. Air Fry the Apple Wedges:

  1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.

  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil.

  3. Place apple wedges in a single layer (work in batches if needed).

  4. Air fry for 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway through, until apples are tender with a slightly crispy coating.

🔥 Tip: Cooking time may vary depending on the air fryer model and apple type. Keep an eye out to avoid over-softening.

3. Make the Caramel Whipped Cream:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine cold whipping cream, caramel sauce, vanilla, and a pinch of sea salt.

  2. Beat with a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium-high until soft to medium peaks form.

  3. Taste and adjust caramel to your desired sweetness.

  4. Keep chilled until ready to serve.

🍽️ Serve

  • Plate the warm apple wedges.

  • Serve with a generous dollop or side bowl of the caramel whipped cream for dipping.

  • Optional garnish: drizzle more caramel sauce over the top or sprinkle with sea salt or cinnamon sugar.

🧊 Storage & Reheating

  • Store leftover apple wedges in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

  • Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3–4 minutes to crisp them up again.

  • Whipped cream can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days; re-whip slightly if it deflates.

🍁 Variations & Add-Ins

  • Spicy kick: Add a pinch of cayenne to the cinnamon sugar mix.

  • Nuts: Roll coated apples in chopped pecans or walnuts before air frying.

  • Vegan: Use coconut cream for the dip and vegan butter for the apple coating.
